Animation Strategies – Walk Cycle and Body Mechanics Animations (Final)

Walk Cycle

The final version of my first walk cycle. I am not completely happy with it, as the arms are held at a strange angle and the knees bend too much and pop unnaturally in places, but with the way this rig works it was too tricky to try and get them to look right. I’m still happy with it overall, I think the overall motion of the figure looks fairly natural.

Body Mechanics

The baseball swing is alright but again it was difficult to work with the arms in such an extreme pose, and it doesn’t look good from the front facing angle. I’m quite happy with the tiptoe walk but it has flaws also, I don’t like the way the feet slide along the ground and also the weight and sense of movement is quite lacking in the second part of the walk. These problems could probably be fixed if I had planned the key poses more carefully from the start but I decided to leave them after fiddling about with them didn’t help much.

Overall I have really enjoyed the animation project and have learned a lot, I look forward to doing more in the future.
